COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police are investigating a crash in Kalamazoo County involving road rage, assault and battery, and minor injuries.
MSP troopers say it happened around 8:55 a.m. Monday morning, April 10 on eastbound I-94 near mile marker 83 in Comstock Township.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 22-year-old Illinois man cut off a 42-year-old Portage man driving a pickup while traveling east on I-94.
Troopers say the pickup truck driver then tailgated the 22-year-old, and both began to drive recklessly, ultimately crashing into each other.
The 22-year-old suffered minor injuries after colliding with a cement barrier. The 42-year-old suffered no injuries after his pickup truck rolled multiple times into a ditch. Witnesses reported seeing both men fighting in the middle of I-94 following the crash.
No arrests were made, but police say warrant requests are expected to be submitted for both drivers for reckless driving.
Assault and battery charges are also expected to be submitted for the Portage man only, troopers said.
The crash remains open pending prosecutor’s review, troopers say the names of the drivers will not be released before any potential arrests and arraignments
