KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The former Kalamazoo Public Schools assistant superintendent of operations has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the district.
WWMT-TV says Jim English, who was fired in December 2022, is suing the district in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court for wrongful termination and “egregious retaliation,” according to his attorney.
The school board unanimously voted to fire English December 28, 2022 for various violations of board policy. They say English paid more than $91,000 to an outside organization without board authorization or knowledge.
They say he was also fired due to several other violations of board policy such as outsourcing an administrative position without board authorization or knowledge, and entering into a contract for services without written agreement for compensation to be paid for services, which are all violations of board policy.
The lawsuit was filed Monday, but district officials say they have not yet been served papers.
English’s firing by the board came 16 days after Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri abruptly resigned as the school district’s superintendent.
