KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s nearing time once again for flushing season in the city of Kalamazoo. Spring hydrant flushing that is.
Kalamazoo city officials say the flushing will start on Sunday, April 16, and that it’s being done to help remove accumulated minerals from water mains, improve water flow, and better meet the needs of customers.
They say also that most flushing will take place overnight between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. If necessary, daytime flushing will occur between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. as needed.
Customers should expect their tap water to appear cloudy or discolored immediately after flushing, and to remember that it will not affect the safety of the water.
City crews suggest that residents should run cold water until it becomes clear again, and are advised to avoid doing laundry immediately after flushing has occurred in their area to prevent potential discoloration of certain fabrics.
Staff will flush the entire public water service area according to a schedule available on the City of Kalamazoo website. Customers should note that the schedule was updated since it was originally published, including since it was published in the View from the Curb newsletter (the online View from the Curb has been revised to include the current schedule).
