CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Dowagiac woman and her three children suffered minor injuries during a rollover crash after the woman swerved to miss a deer that ran out in front of her.
Cass County deputies say the crash happened around 6 a.m. Thursday, April 6 on M-51 just north of Indian Lake Road. Investigation showed that the 31-year-old female was traveling north with her children on M-51 when a deer ran in front of her vehicle.
She attempted to miss the deer by swerving, which caused the vehicle to hit loose gravel on the shoulder. She then over-corrected when re-entering the road, causing the vehicle to rollover before coming to rest.
The driver and her three children, ages 9, 7, and 2 years, were taken to Lakeland Niles Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the crash.
Deputies say all occupants were wearing seat belts and that alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
