KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety police are searching for the cause of a fire at a commercial building Wednesday afternoon, April 5.
KDPS says their officers responded to the 3600 block of West Michigan Avenue just before 3 p.m. On scene, they located a large vacant commercial building with smoke coming from the 2nd story on the south side of the structure.
Through the use of a water deck gun, firefighters were able to first knock down the flames at the front before making their way into the interior of the building. Once inside, they were able to fully extinguish the fire which was brought under control within 20 minutes.
According to authorities, the building was vacant prior to the incident and that no one was inside at the time.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s office.
