KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One person is dead following a fatal shooting near the campus of Western Michigan University on Tuesday, April 4.
According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, it happened around 11:45 a.m at Westchester Woods Apartments on Little Drive off of West KL Avenue, located east of Drake Road.
Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died.
So far, police have not released his name and age.
Western Michigan University Public Safety issuing an advisory around 12 p.m. for the public to avoid the area during the ongoing investigation.
No suspects have been arrested yet, and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.
However, the victim’s vehicle was taken by law enforcement during the incident and is described as a White, 2021 Kia K5 with a Michigan plate of ESH 6869.
