MARENGO TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Three persons were killed early Monday morning in a two-vehicle head-on crash that took place on westbound I-94 east of 22 1/2 Mile Road in Calhoun County’s Marengo Township.
Michigan State Police at the Marshall post say a Ford pick-up was traveling east in the westbound lanes when it struck a mini van which was heading west at around 12:30 a.m..
All three fatal victims were pronounced dead at the scene. They were the driver of the Ford pick-up who was a 42-year-old man from Massachusetts along with two occupants of the minivan.
They were identified as the 46-year-old male driver from Indiana and a 4-year-old female passenger.
Four additional occupants, one adult and three children, were transported to Oaklawn and Bronson Hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of those involved have not been released by the Michigan State Police.
State Police report the deceased driver of the minivan and the other adult occupant were wearing seat belts; however, the three children in the minivan were not in child safety seats or wearing seat belts.
The investigation and clean up of the crash scene resulted in the freeway being shut down for about five hours.

Troopers were assisted by police from Albion and Marshall, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Calhoun County Central Dispatch along with fire departments from Marshall and Marengo.
This incident remains open pending further investigation.
