PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man is in custody after leading Portage Public Safety officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle on Sunday, March 20.
It all began when the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety got a call that afternoon that a vehicle reported stolen had been seen traveling south on Westnedge Avenue. Officers then located and followed the vehicle near the Southland Mall in Portage, but disengaged once it fled due to safety reasons.
A responding officer then noticed that the stolen vehicle had pulled into a parking spot near the Southland Mall, and was remaining in place. Police were then able to block the vehicle to detain the driver whom they had to use pepper spray on initially.
Authorities say the passenger of the stolen vehicle complied with police.
No injuries were reported.
