BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Benton Harbor parolee was arrested on multiple drug charges last week.
Southwest Enforcement Team detectives along with the Fifth District Crime Prevention Squad arresting the parolee on Thursday, March 2 following a traffic stop on Pipestone Road in Benton Township.
According to authorities, troopers initially gave chase when the suspect failed to stop, but terminated the chase due to unsafe conditions. The suspect vehicle was later found abandoned near Marion and Parker Street in Benton Harbor.
Police then established a perimeter and saw the suspect fleeing on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was captured and arrested without further incident. A large quantity of fentanyl and methamphetamine was found packaged for distribution, along with other evidence of narcotic trafficking.
The suspect, described as a 22-year-old Benton Harbor man, was lodged at the Berrien County jail on various felony charges parole violations, flee and elude 3rd degree, resisting and obstructing, maintaining a drug vehicle, and possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Detectives were also assisted by Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety and Benton Township Police Officers.
The name of the arrested suspect is being withheld pending court arraignment.
