PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A hit and run accident early Monday morning knocked out power to more than 1,300 customers in Portage.
The Portage Department of Public Safety says a vehicle hit a power pole around 4:15 a.m. near the intersection of Portage Road and East Centre Avenue.
The crash caused a utility pole to fall, leaving downed power lines across the road. Crews had to shut down Portage Road to get the pole back up and will work to re-string the lines Monday morning.
The driver and vehicle fled the scene. Police say there likely is significant damage to the vehicle. It’s not known if there were any injuries.
