PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Portage Department of Public Safety, in partnership with Safe Kids Kalamazoo County, is hosting a free car seat safety check up on Thursday, February 2.
Organizers say the event gives parents and caregivers the opportunity to receive education and assistance on the proper use of child restraint systems from certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from Portage Public Safety, Kalamazoo Public Safety, Comstock Fire Department, and the Oshtemo Fire Department.
They go onto say that the event will wrap-up a 4-day, 32-hour Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification course provided by Safe Kids Kalamazoo, hosted at Portage Public Safety.
Car Seat Checkups will be provided for free by appointment only. Those looking to take part should call Safe Kids Kalamazoo at 269-341-8830 to setup their appointment.
The event will run from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Portage Fire Station No. 1, located at 7830 Shaver Road.
All children must be present with their car seats. Expecting parents will receive instructions on the installation and fitting for their future child in their car seat.
