KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Salvation Army of Kalamazoo has come in significantly short this year of meeting it’s 2022 Red Kettle fund raising goal. Officials with the organization say the annual bell ringing event raised $41,000 dollars less than what they were hoping to get.
Funds raised through the kettle campaign over the Christmas season help to support Salvation Army’s programs year-round to include food and rent assistance, youth, senior citizen, and veteran programs as well as providing assistance to the unhoused.
Kalamazoo Salvation Army corps officer Captain Ronnie Amick attributing the fund shortage to multiple factors, such as a lack of volunteers, an uncertain economy, and inflation. He went onto say, “We are greatly appreciative of all the generous donations that we have received this year, both through our kettles and our mail campaigns. Unfortunately, we have still fallen significantly short. We count on the funds raised from our red kettles to help support us and our programs throughout the year, which are critical to our community, especially during difficult economic times like we are experiencing this year.”
Amick says donations will always be welcome and that there are still multiple ways to contribute from mailing a donation in directly to the Corps at 1700 S. Burdick, Kalamazoo, MI 49001 or you can donate online by going to our website at https://centralusa.salvationarmy.org/kalamazoo/ and clicking on the red donate button in the upper right hand of the page.
