KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Lansing man will stand trial for open murder and gun charges in the shooting death of a Kalamazoo man last November.
29-year-old Damien Lang was ordered to stand trial Wednesday by a judge in Kalamazoo County District Court in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Bryce Salter.
The incident happened in a parking lot near Western Michigan University November 11, 2022.
A detective testified in court Wednesday that Lang admitted to getting into a physical fight with Salter and tossing the weapon after shooting him.
Surveillance video showed Lang walked over and argued with Salter then pointed a gun at his chest, knocking him to the ground. Salter got up and began to fight Lang before he was shot.
The shooting happened in the parking lot on West Michigan Avenue and Howard Street. A man drove Salter to the hospital, where he later died.
A trial date in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court has not yet been set.
