KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Prosecutors filed open murder charges on Tuesday, January 17 against two suspects accused of fatally stabbing a Kalamazoo Township man before setting his home on fire in June 2022.
According to Kalamazoo County District court records, 47-year-old Andrew McCormack and 32-year-old Shawna Kroger were issued charges on open murder, second degree arson and tampering with evidence.
Police said McCormack told detectives that a knife was used to kill 53-year-old James Travis inside his Shakespeare Avenue home in Kalamazoo Township on June 18th of last year. Travis died from multiple sharp force injuries, according to medical examiners.
Investigators also noted that the fire was intentionally set in an area with no mechanical or electrical equipment.
Court records indicated McCormak and Kroeger allegedly killed Travis during an argument, and that the pair was seen on surveillance camera stealing a white pickup truck near Flower’s Automotive Recyclers on Fullord Street, hours before the crime.
Both were expected to be arraigned on the murder charges on Wednesday, January 18.
