BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A reception will be held next Tuesday, January 24, 2023 to celebrate both the retirement of outgoing Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker and incoming Interim Chief Shannon Bagley.
The reception will be held in the Battle Creek Police Department Community Room beginning at 4:00 p.m..
Blocker retired on January 1 after serving as Chief since July of 2014. He was part of the Battle Creek Department for 26 years.
Bagley will serve as interim for six months, giving him and the city the chance to see if the role is a good fit.
At that time, the City Manager will determine if he is ready to assume the chief role permanently. If not, the city will begin a national search.
Bagley joined the BCPD as Investigations Deputy Chief in September 2021.
He was a captain with the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Public Safety Department, and retired from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety in 2018, after 25 years with that department.
