KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — At the center of the debate over the resignation of the Kalamazoo Public Schools former superintendent, and the firing of her second-in-command is the attempt to create a Kalamazoo Schools Foundation.
Documents show former Operations Director Jim English had paid school funds to several consultants to start the foundation without board approval, and Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri apparently knew about it. A parent asked trustees last Thursday night if the board opposed the foundation.
Interim Superintendent Cindy Green says the School board had never authorized the creation of a foundation, and had no idea it was even taking place.
Documents suggest that work on the foundation began last May, soliciting donations. But Green says the district hasn’t received a dime.
Raichoudhuri abruptly resigned near the end of last year before Green ordered the investigation that led to English’s termination.
