KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo City Commissioners plan to start their search for a new City Attorney all over again, now that the candidate they picked for the job has withdrawn his name.
It was revealed that Kalamazoo’s James Porter dropped out for undisclosed personal family reasons last week.
Commissioners have apparently talked with current City Attorney Clyde Robinson and have convinced him to stay on for another six months, offering a boost to his salary along with a $20,000 retention bonus, which they say, buys them time to restart the search.
Robinson was originally hoping to retire July 1st of last year, but agreed to stay on until the end of January before the search went into overtime.
The subcommittee appointed to conduct the search is recommending that instead of hiring an outside headhunting firm this time, that they do the recruiting and screening in-house, directing the Administration to do the job.
Commissioners are set to take this action into consideration at their meeting tonight, (Tuesday) at city hall.
