KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Legacy Senior Living, a proposed housing development in Kalamazoo, was awarded highly competitive Low Income Housing Tax Credits last week on Thursday, January 12 from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
The project is a collaboration between Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Hollander Development that will create 70 newly constructed one-bedroom homes for seniors in Kalamazoo’s Northside Neighborhood.
The $22.4 million dollar apartment community is one of several projects that received funding from the Kalamazoo County Housing Millage in 2022.
Legacy Senior Living will be located near the intersection of Burdick and Frank Streets adjacent to the Ecumenical Senior Center.
Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Hollander Development hope to begin construction this fall, with the community open for residents in early 2025, with one hundred percent of the rents to be income-based.
