ST. JOSEPH, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Retired Congressman Fred Upton says his name has been floated as a potential candidate for U.S. House Speaker, but adds there has not been any serious conversations about it.
Upton says the government is shut down as the U.S. House continues to vote on its next leader with a slight Republican majority. Congressman Kevin McCarthy has had six votes for House Speaker and has not had enough support in any of them.
The House Speaker does not need to be a member of Congress.
