KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s Acting Chief David Boysen has officially been sworn in as the Public Safety Chief on Thursday, January 5.
The swearing in ceremony took place just days after the City of Kalamazoo reached a separation agreement with the former Public Safety Chief Vernon Coakley.
The separation between the city and Coakley follows a months long investigation into alleged harassment complaints that were found to be credible.
Boyson, a 26-year public safety employee, had been named Deputy Chief in March 2021.
“I appreciate all of the congratulatory messages and well-wishes from the community, family, and friends. I am very humbled by all of the support I have received. A big thank you to the people of Kalamazoo for entrusting me to keep this community safe,” Boysen said in a statement.
