DETROIT, MI — General Motor’s dealers in the United States sold 2,274,088 new vehicles last year, up from the 2,218,228 sold in 2021.
The yearly sales gain allowed GM to reclaim its throne from Toyota Motor Corp. as the top-selling U.S. automaker. The Japanese automaker reportedly sold 2.1 million vehicles last year, a drop of 10% from 2021 sales.
GM divisions showed mixed results, according to company’s Q4 report released today. Chevy was up 6%, Cadillac 14% and GMC 7%. Meanwhile, Buick’s sales declined 42%.
The automaker has two mid-Michigan auto production facilities: Lansing Car Assembley in downtown Lansing and a plant in Delta Towsnhip. GM and battery partner LG Energy Solution are planning a $2.5 billion investment in Lansing near the Delta Township plant for a battery cell manufacturing facility that will support a growing list of coming EVs.
