UNION CITY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Two men were stabbed while a suspect from Jackson was taken into custody on Monday following an aggravated assault in the 1200 block of Burlington Road just south of the Branch-Calhoun County line.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the incident was reported at 12:38 p.m.. They said in a news release that the suspect attacked a 33-year-old man from Union City from behind and had stabbed him several times including in the back, the chest and neck.
The suspect then allegedly sought out the second victim who was identified as a 33-year-old man from Coldwater and stabbed him several times in the head and face and assaulted him with a hammer.
The 31-year-old suspect was subdued by other witnesses at the scene and held there until deputies arrived. The two victims were transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for their injuries.
At last report, the Union City man is hospitalized in serious condition. The second victim was treated and released.
The suspect was treated and released from Bronson Hospital. He then taken into custody by Sheriff’s Deputies and transported to the Branch County Jail where he was lodged on several charges.
Deputies were assisted by Union City Police and Lifecare Ambulance.
The names of those involved will be released at a later time due to the suspect’s arraignment and the medical condition of the victims.
