KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A new judge will join both Kalamazoo and Allegan counties.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill on Thursday, December which will create two new judge seats, one in Kalamazoo County and one in Allegan County.
The bipartisan bill was created as caseloads and populations grew in the counties, creating delays in cases and a need for more judges, according to a news release from Senator Sean McCann, of Kalamazoo.
As a result, Kalamazoo County Circuit Court will have six judges and Allegan County Circuit Court will have three, according to the bill.
The new judges will take the bench January 1st, 2025, after running for election in 2024.
