PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage City Officials say they are paying a great deal for Metro Transit Service and not getting much bang for the buck.
The system is partially supported by a regional millage, and Portage contributes more money than any other community to keep the buses rolling, including Kalamazoo.
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Pearson says because of the way routes are designed, it takes forever for Portage residents to get to the Mall, Meijer, or the new Senior Center.
Now Pearson says a consultant is proposing that south Portage Routes be eliminated because of low ridership counts.
He wants the Council and City Staff to make it clear to the Metro Transit Director that they aren’t happy with the report, and oppose the cancellation of routes.
