KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – High winds and brutally cold temperatures have now moved into West Michigan, as a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for many counties, including Kalamazoo, Allegan, Van Buren, Barry, Ottawa, Cass, and St. Joseph until 7:00 p.m. Christmas Eve.
Calhoun County is under a Winter Storm Warning.
According to the National Weather Service, total snow accumulations in excess of a foot is expected in many areas, with the heaviest snow west of U.S. 131.
Winds wiil be gusting as high as 50 mph, with travel likely very difficult to impossible today and tonight and even into Saturday.
Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility, and gusty winds could bring down tree branches and cause power outages.
Friday morning brought icy roads coated in a few inches of snow. With winds from the west at 15-25 mph, drifts were near two to four feet.
Widespread 10 to 20 inches of snow west of US-131 and winds frequently gusting to 50 mph will make travel incredibly difficult, if not impossible Friday. Measuring Snowfall totals has also become difficult because of the blowing snow.
