KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — New information has come to light on the case of a 16-year-old Kalamazoo teenager origionally charged with open murder.
The Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney issued a release on Wednesday afternoon, December 21 stating that the original charges against Kahree L. Compton of one count of open murder and one count of using a firearm to commit a felony have been amended.
Those charges were based on information provided by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety who stated they were told by a medical examiner that the victim, 17-year-old Jashan Omar Jones had died in the Hospital on Saturday, December 17 following the shooting on Friday, December 16.
According to Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Getting, Jones is currently on life support.
Getting went onto say that the prosecuting office has dismissed the murder charge and will re-authorize a charge of assault with intent to murder.
In total, Compton now faces one count of assault with intent to murder and one count of using a firearm to commit a felony.
