KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A 17-year-old Kalamazoo resident injured during a shooting on the afternoon of Friday, December 16 has died.
The teen who’s injuries were first considered serious and life-threatening passed away in the hospital late Saturday afternoon, December 17 according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
On Friday, officers responded around 4 p.m. to the 1000 block of Interfaith Boulevard on a report of a citizen being struck by gunfire. On scene, they located the teen victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound who was then taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
KDPS issued the following statement regarding the incident:
“The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety offers its condolences to any family or friends who have been impacted by this loss. We continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.”
The victim is not being identified at this time pending all family notifications.
