SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazil, the world’s largest chicken exporter, remains free of avian influenza but is “on alert” as five South American countries have reported outbreaks in 2022, Ricardo Santin, president of meat lobby ABPA, told a news conference on Thursday.
Brazil has taken additional measures to avoid a local outbreak, including barring visits to meat factories and animal husbandry sites, Santin said.
“Brazil does not have and never had avian flu and is prepared to deal with any zoonotic problems that may occur,” he said.
