DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Detroit Pistons second-year guard Cade Cunningham is headed for season-ending shin surgery.
ESPN reports the 2021 first overall draft pick has opted for surgery after consulting with multiple doctors. He’s expected to be fully recovered in time for training camp next season. Cunningham has been sidelined since early November, using the time to see if rehab and rest would help.
The 21-year-old averaged just under 20 points in 12 games this season.
The Pistons are back on the hardwood tomorrow when they visit Charlotte to face the Hornets.
Detroit has dropped three in-a-row following Sunday’s home loss to the Lakers. The Pistons are now 7-and-22 on the season.
