KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri has resigned.
The surprise announcement came from Board President Patti Sholler-Barber last night at the conclusion of the third closed session they have held in the past week. The board statement said that her departure came by “mutual agreement.”
Sholler-Barber said “while a change in leadership can be concerning and disruptive, Dr. Raichoudhuri leaves the district in good standing.”
Former Assistant Superintendent Cindy Green will serve as Interim Superintendent.
Green retired from the district a couple of years ago, and since then spent 6 months as the Interim Superintendent in Lakeview Schools near Battle Creek.
Dr. Raichoudhuri’s resignation took effect immediately on the board’s approval.
Dr. Raichoudhuri came on board just before the pandemic hit, resulting in a turbulent tenure filled with difficult, and sometimes controversial decisions, and labor unrest.
She was lauded for her leadership pulling the district through its tough times, but not everyone agreed with her solutions.
