BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – An 18-year-old male is in the Kalamazoo County Jail following a late Sunday afternoon high speed police chase which started in Kalamazoo and ended in Battle Creek.
Battle Creek Police say the chase last for about a half hour. It started at about 4:30 p.m. as the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety pursued a car stolen from Battle Creek.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office took over the chase once the driver got on eastbound I-94.
Speeds reached 100 mph as it got into Calhoun County.
The car exited I-94 at Capital Avenue, then drove on Beckley Road. Officers from Emmett Township and Calhoun County joined the chase, and Battle Creek Police attempted to block area intersections.
The suspect driver then headed north on Riverside Drive. Before he could reach Columbia Avenue, a Battle Creek police officer used stop sticks.
The suspect vehicle then crashed into another car at the intersection of Riverside and Columbia and stopped.
Police took the driver into custody. Four minor passengers were released by police to their parents. One was taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for minor injuries.
The unidentified driver was booked on charges of fleeing and eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle.
