KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Salvation Army of Kalamazoo is set to hold it’s annual “Toy Shop” this year starting on Wednesday, December 14.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and will run through Friday, December 16 until 4 p.m.
The “Toy Shop” allows qualified parents and guardians to be able to shop for toys for their children at pre-registered times.
According to a news release, the “Toy Shop” is now in it’s 29th year in Kalamazoo and provides around 7,000 toys to close to 2,000 children from infants to age 17. During the event, volunteers will assist shoppers in picking out a big toy, a little toy, a book, stocking stuffers, and this year each family will also receive a game.
Kalamazoo Salvation Army corps officer Captain Ronnie Amick praised the support received from the Kalamazoo Community so far by saying, “The Angel Tree and our Toy Shop event are long-standing traditions in our communities, and we are blessed to make sure children have toys to open on Christmas morning, especially during difficult economic times like we are experiencing this year”.
Amick went onto say that funds raised during the Christmas season help to support their programs year-round, such as food and rent assistance, youth, senior citizen and veteran programs, along with providing help to the un-housed.
