KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Teachers, staff, and support personnel with the Kalamazoo Public School were hoping to get a retention bonus approved at last night’s Board of Education meeting, but it didn’t happen.
Trustees held a special closed session to talk about it Monday and the unions representing the employees have been meeting since, but school board President Patti Sholler-Barber announced at the beginning of the meeting that the paperwork was not complete, and it was removed from the agenda.
Union representatives who attended last night’s packed meeting were clearly frustrated, and told the board so.
The board will hold another special meeting this coming Monday to take up the proposed bonuses.
Many other public employees received pandemic pay, essential worker bonuses, and other one time bumps in their pay-checks because they worked through the pandemic.
