KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Those wanting to do some late night holiday shopping will soon be able to enjoy extended store hours until 11 p.m., extended restaurant hours and specials, during Kalamazoo’s very first Moonlight Madness event on Friday, December 9.
During the event, shoppers will be able to carry their drinks with them throughout the Central Commons, ride on the Holly Jolly Trolley (until 8 PM) and shop under colorful lights.
“We’re really looking forward to a high energy shopping event,” said downtown shop owner Becky Bil, of Pop City Popcorn. “Being open later for shoppers that work during the day is a great way for them to come out and enjoy the amazing restaurants and retailers downtown.”
For most small businesses, holiday shopping is a major part of their annual sales. 2022, in particular, has delivered its own set of challenges including supply chain issues, labor shortages and inflationary pressure.
“It’s been a trying few years for small business,” said Rocket Fizz owner Heather Holmer. “We feel like this may be a great opportunity to reconnect with some long-time customers and maybe make some new friends, too.”
Free gift wrapping will be available in the City Centre Commons area on the Kalamazoo Mall through 8 p.m. Street parking will be free after 6 p.m.
The Moonlight Madness event is being organized by the Kalamazoo Experiential Learning Center and is sponsored by Peregrine Properties.
