KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo City Commissioners have tentatively picked a local lawyer to be their new City Attorney, over two other candidates from Flint and Detroit.
It seems it was James Porter’s knowledge of local issues, and his willingness to fight for housing initiatives that the current City Attorney has called ‘unenforceable’ that put him over the top. Commissioners Hess, Preadel and Mayor Anderson quoted directly from Porter’s interview.
Mayor Anderson says they plan to do a more comprehensive background check on Porter before finalizing the offer, a process that could take over a month.
Porter is currently in private practice, with Oshtemo Township being one of his clients.
