HOWARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a three-vehicle crash in Cass County that killed one and injured four others on Friday, December 2.
Authorities say the crash that involved two passenger vehicles and a semi-truck, occurred on M-60 and Anderson Road in Howard Township around 5:30 p.m.
Investigation showed that one of the passenger vehicles driven by 41-year-old Sarah Proctor of Mishawaka, IN was stopping on the roadway of M-60 to turn onto Anderson Road when the other passenger vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Bridgette Garza of Dowagiac, crashed into the back of Proctor’s vehicle.
Garza’s vehicle continued off the roadway and rolled onto it’s side, while Proctor’s vehicle was pushed into the northeast lane of traffic, and hit by a semi-truck driven by 72-year-old Dale Rieder of Niles who was traveling northeast on M-60.
Proctor was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle driven by Garza had three passengers present at the times of the crash. All occupants of the vehicle were transported by SMCAS Ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital, for injuries sustained during the crash.
Assisting agencies include Michigan State Police and Motor Carrier Division, Howard Township Fire Department, Niles Township Fire Department, and SMCAS Ambulance.
