KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo Township man who police say shot his relative appeared in Kalamazoo’s 8th District Court on Friday, December 4.
According to the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department, 57-year-old Andrew J. Pitchford was arraigned on Assault with intent to commit murder, a felony punishable by life or any number of years in prison, and Felony Firearm, a felony, punishable by two years consecutively with and preceding any term
of imprisonment imposed for the felony or attempted felony conviction.
Police say Pitchford allegedly shot his relative, a 25-year-old Kalamazoo Township man in a home in the 1000 block of East Mosel Avenue on Thursday afternoon, December 1. The victim then called 911 to report that he was shot by a relative. He was taken to the hospital after officers administered first aid.
Pitchford was located a short distance away and taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
The alleged shooting prompted Parchment Public Schools Innovation Center to go into a brief lock-down as a precaution. Department officials say the lock-down itself was supervised by the school’s resource officer to make sure there was no danger to students or staff.
For the charges, Pitchford was given cash or surety of bond of $100,000.
