KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Parchment Public Schools Innovation Center was placed in a brief lock-down in the afternoon on Thursday, December 1 due to a nearby shooting.
The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department reported that it happened around 4:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Mosel Avenue in Kalamazoo Township.
Authorities say a 25-year-old Kalamazoo Township man made a 911 call where he said that he had been shot by a relative. Officers found the victim at a residence on East Mosel and began first-aid before he was transported to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.
The suspect, a 57-year-old Kalamazoo Township man, was located a short distance away. With the assistance of Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
All of this prompted the Parchment Public Schools Innovation Center to briefly go into lock-down as a precaution.
A request for criminal charges to be placed against the suspect will be submitted to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
