ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man convicted of two counts of Resisting/Obstructing Police as a Fourth Habitual Offender is now facing up to 15 years in prison.
62-year-old Mark Shelton was found guilty by jury of the counts in St. Joseph County’s 45th Circuit Court on Tuesday, November 22. Assisting Prosecuting Attorney Casey Johnson tried the case on behalf of the People of the State of Michigan.
It all goes back to August 19, 2021 when an officer from the Three Rivers Police Department attempted to arrest Shelton for an outstanding warrant. Shelton resisted arrest and fled on foot. A responding officer caught up with Shelton, who once again failed to comply with lawful commands. Officers took Shelton to the ground, where he continued to resist.
He was then tased, and eventually apprehended by the responding officers, with one of the officers suffering a leg injury in the process.
Sentencing for Shelton is set for Thursday, December 22.
