KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Lansing resident has been arrested and is expected to be charged in the shooting death of a Kalamazoo man last Friday.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says at approximately 3:00 a.m. officers responded to the report of a subject who was struck by gunfire. They say 21-year-old Bryce Salter was shot and killed in the parking lot of Campus Pointe plaza, near West Michigan Avenue and Howard Street.
Salter arrived in a private vehicle at a local hospital, but died from his injuries.
Witnesses reportedly told police there was a fight between two groups before someone in one of the group’s pulled a gun and shot Salter.
KDPS detectives began their investigation and were able to identify the Lansing resident as their suspect. The Lansing Police Department assisted with the investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspect several hours later in Lansing.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Ingham County Jail on an unrelated warrant.
This case is expected to be sent to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors’ Office Tuesday for review.
Even though the shooting occurred in the 2600 block of West Michigan Avenue near the Western Michigan University campus, school officials say Salter was not a student.
