KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County is getting ready to honor it’s veterans with a special ceremony on Friday, November 11.
The 2022 Kalamazoo County Veterans Day Ceremony is set to take place at the Robert L. Cook Veterans Memorial Plaza in Kalamazoo.
The event will feature guest speaker Zaneta Adams, who is the director of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.
Other guests will include Michigan State Representatives Julie Rogers and Christine Morse along with Kalamazoo City Mayor David Anderson. The ceremony is also set to feature honor guards from the U.S. Marine Corps and Kalamazoo City Department of Public Safety along with music provided by the Kalamazoo Pipe Band.
Veteran Service Specialist with the Kalamazoo County Government, Benjamin Hackett encourages everyone who comes to the ceremony to to think of everyday as Veteran’s Day.
“Service members across the generations have contributed in their own way, and have each kind of answered the call of their time. And it’s very important that we as the general public and as a nation recognize that and continue to support those individuals and their dependents and loved ones. And this is just one ceremony where we are hoping to do that,” said Hackett.
The ceremony will also feature the presentation of this year’s Kalamazoo County Veteran of the Year.
The event will take place on Friday, November 9 beginning at 2 p.m. at East Michigan Avenue at King Highway in Kalamazoo.
Organizers say that in the event of bad weather, the event will be held on site in a tent.
The public is welcome to attend.
