KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In anticipation of the expiration of their contract this Friday at midnight, unionized nurses at Ascension Borgess Hospital plan to hold an informational picket Saturday morning outside the hospital.
According to the Michigan Nurses Association, the nurses are calling for “a fair contract that prioritizes safe staffing by offering wages that will recruit and retain RNs and that preserves nurses’ retirement and family leave.”
The union says the nurses are also protesting what they consider to be a pattern of unlawful anti-union activities by Ascension Borgess.
Over 100 nurses and supporters are expected for the informational picket, which will run from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday outside the hospital on Gull Road.
The union says this is not a work stoppage or strike, with all participants attending outside of their work hours. They say picketing will occur without disrupting traffic flow or patient care.
