KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — National Prescription Drug TakeBackDay is this Saturday, October 29, and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is gearing up for the occasion.
Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency, the annual event gives people a chance to give up their unwanted medications, thereby, making their homes safer by reducing the chances of those meds getting into the wrong hands.
According to KDPS Public Information Officer Jay Shatara, the Drug TakeBackDay on Saturday is not restricted to just Kalamazoo city or county residents, but is open to all with unwanted medications to dispose of.
Shatara went onto say that last year, 8 boxes totaling 123 pounds of unwanted meds were collected at the KDPS location by itself.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29.
