VICKSBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Vicksburg middle school student has admitted to writing a threat to the school in an online survey.
The online threat, written by the 8th grader on Thursday, October 6, caused the middle school to be closed on Friday, October 7.
That threat was picked up by the survey company on Thursday who notified the school that one of the responses on the survey included an anonymous threat.
School district administration immediately began working with Vicksburg Police to investigate the threat, and closed the school on Friday out of an abundance of caution.
All other schools in the district remained open with an increased police presence.
After interviewing multiple students and parents, officers were able to get a confession from a student who admitted to writing the threat.
School Superintendent Keevin O’Neill said in a statement on Friday, October 7, ” The safety and security of our students is our top priority. Vicksburg Community Schools takes all threats seriously and works cooperatively with law enforcement to protect our school community. I want to thank our local law enforcement for their swift action to keep our students and staff safe.”
