KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Commissioners are set to hand out more American Rescue Plan money at their meeting Tuesday evening, October 4, as they near the end of their process for the distribution of the one-time Covid relief funding from Washington.
Nearly $6-million would be spent to help agencies like the Boys and Girls Club and housing projects in neighborhoods that were hardest hit by the pandemic.
Administrator Kevin Catlin says they will have allocated most but not all of the $51-million they received to help the community recover.
“My rough estimate at this point is that it’s around 3.1 million (dollars) remaining,” said Catlin.
The largest single allocation from the County ARPA fund has been to reward their own essential workers with bonuses of up to $8500.
The Board could also approve bonuses for employees who worked through the pandemic at the 911 Dispatch Center and the WMU Homer Stryker Medical College.
Similar requests from Kalamazoo Township and the Richland Police Department were denied.

Is it really that hard to get the name of the medical school correct? WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine NOT WMU Homer Stryker Medical College. Do we just make things up now?
