KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Commissioners have approved a 12-year tax break for investors who want to turn an old bank in the Haymarket District downtown into a destination restaurant.
While they might not get the taxes they might be able to assess, Commissioner Quianna Decker says it could give the downtown a boost.
Developer Fritz Brown says they are still waiting for a request for assistance from the state before moving ahead on the project, which faces other obstacles, including structural, environmental and economic hurdles that have to be overcome.
It is the first of its kind tax break granted to a building designated as “obsolete” in the city of Kalamazoo.
Commissioners also approved a tax break for a $57-million dollar expansion of the Zoetis facility on Kilgore Road.
