OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A 55-year-old Pontiac man is now charged with killing 57-year-old WWJ news anchor Jim Nicolai, known on the air by Jim Matthews. Arthur Williamson was let in to Nicolai’s home between midnight and 6 a.m. Friday and attacked him, his two children, and his girlfriend around noon Friday.
Williamson is charged with first-degree murder, premeditated murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, and three counts of unlawful imprisonment.
A check of Williamson’s record, which includes a 30 year career of crime, shows he was on parole out of Clinton County until January for a breaking and entering conviction.
Police say they found Williamson in the basement with self-inflicted injuries. The man survived a suicide attempt after overdosing on drugs.
