BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Police announced on Friday they have arrested three young people in their mid- to late-teens in Tuesday morning’s drive by shooting death in the 100 block of Cliff Street of two-year-old Kai Turner.
All three suspects are from Battle Creek and were apprehended following an investigation by Battle Creek Police and other law enforcement agencies.
Police also said in a statement the suspects were identified thanks to the cooperation of the Battle Creek community which included multiple helpful tips through Silent Observer.
Open murder and firearms charges will be submitted to the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office on all three suspects. They are now at the Calhoun County Jail and Calhoun County Youth Center.
Police executed multiple search warrants in the city on Thursday. Those searches resulted in police recovering guns, ammunition, and other property they suspect was used in the murder.
Officers responded to the shooting at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The investigation found that a dark-colored SUV drove past, and someone fired multiple rounds into the home.
Police believe the youngster’s family was not the shooter’s intended target.
The black Audi Q7 police believe was used in the shooting was found on Tuesday afternoon in the area of Wagner Drive after it was stolen from West Columbia Avenue last Sunday.
