SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former University Memphis forward and Michigan native Emoni Bates is dealing with some legal trouble.
Bates was arrested on Sunday night after a firearm was discovered by sheriff’s deputies in the car he was driving.
ESPN reports Bates was stopped by deputies in Superior Township after he failed to stop at an intersection. The 18-year-old was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and “altering ID marks” on a firearm.
Bates’ attorney, Steve Haney, told ESPN the forward was driving a borrowed car that had a gun in it.
Bates transferred from Memphis to Eastern Michigan this summer.
