ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Allegan County Prosecuter’s Office has made a final ruling in the officer involved shooting of Joseph Nagle back on June 16.
According to a news release dated Monday, September 19, Allegan County Prosecuting Attorney Myrene Koch said that after a thorough review of the investigation, the deputy involved in the shooting will not be criminally charged.
The Allegan County deputy stopped Nagle for suspicion of impaired driving on June 16 around 10:07 p.m. When he was told that he was under arrest, Nagle immediately began repeatedly punching and head butting the deputy. After feeling like he was going to lose consciousness and fearing that Nagle was going to kill him, the deputy then fired the single fatal gunshot which hit Nagle in the chest area.
The news release went onto say, “The actions of the deputy on June 16, 2022 in the shooting of Joseph Nagle were reasonable under the extreme circumstances in applying the standards set forth by law. As a result, there will be no criminal charges against the deputy.”
